Things to do in and around Jersey
Dedicated to saving animals close to extinction, Durrell Wildlife Park (formerley Jersey Zoo) is the public face of the Durrell Wildife Conservation Trust. So most of the animals live in specially landscaped, spacious enclosures which closely resemble their natural homes, allowing visitors to see them behaving just like they would in the wild.
This 13th century castle was originally built to protect the island of Jersey against French invasion. Towering over the harbour at Gorey, it is one of the best preserved castles in Britain and a major visitor attraction in Jersey.
The Jersey Butterfly Centre is home to hundreds of rare and exotic butterflies which live freely amongst the flowers in this nursery enclosure.

This is a truly brilliant piece of family fun, open for roughly ten weeks a year (July to September - check web site for details) and constructed entirely from maize. Children can find treasure in the "Maize", have water pistol fights with resident pirates, play in the adventure playground and generally while away a day in the sun.
The Jersey experience is a voyage through time, which begins on the deck of a Victorian paddle steamer destined for St Helier. The exhibition is played out through award-winning special effects, exploring Jersey from the time the island was formed, through myths and legends to the times of the German occupation.
Excavated by the occupying German forces of the second world war, this complex of over a kilometre of tunnels are now home to the award winning exhibition 'Captive Island'. Used in the past as wards for casualties, staff quarters, operating theatre, kitchens and stores, the award winning exhibition now uses traditional as well as state of the art techniques, to bring to life this important period of local history.
